Multiple evidence-based guidelines have outlined the optimal treatment of nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB), including early risk stratification.
To assess guideline compliance in the initial management of UGIB, investigators conducted a Web-based survey among gastroenterologists, internists, emergency medicine physicians, and trainees at the 165 U.S. hospitals with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education–accredited gastroenterology training programs. Participants were asked about their agreement with and adherence to quality-of-care indicators from guidelines, as well as their awareness and use of scores to stratify risk.
