Despite vector-control measures, dengue incidence continues to increase worldwide; a safe and effective vaccine is badly needed. One candidate — a recombinant, live, attenuated, tetravalent product — has now been examined in two large, multinational, manufacturer-funded, phase III clinical trials. In the first one, efficacy was demonstrated among children in Asia (NEJM JW Infect Dis Jul 24 2014). Results from the second trial have just been reported.
