The introduction of fluoroquinolone prophylaxis in 2005 has dramatically changed the management of individuals with neutropenic fever. To examine changes in the epidemiology of microbes in this patient population, investigators retrospectively evaluated microbial isolates from all 586 adults who underwent hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (HSCT) at one center in Australia between 2001 and 2010. Antimicrobial prophylaxis and treatment of neutropenic fever were provided in accordance with published guidelines.
