In 2014, based on evidence from randomized, controlled trials, an expert panel made recommendations to increase the blood pressure targets for patients with diabetes or chronic kidney disease and for those aged ≥60 years. To evaluate the impact of these guidelines on blood pressure goal attainment in ambulatory practice, investigators utilized data from the National Cardiovascular Data Registry PINNACLE Registry to assess the proportion of patients who met the prior 2003 Joint National Committee (JNC 7) guidelines and 2014 panel recommendations and to describe the population for whom blood pressure goals had changed.
