In the U.S., job-related mortality is higher among police officers than it is among private sector employees. Although most on-duty fatalities are attributable to trauma, concerns have been raised about adverse cardiovascular events, including sudden cardiac death (SCD). In this study, researchers evaluated the association between risk for SCD and stressful versus nonstressful law enforcement activities in more than 4500 U.S. police officers who died on duty between 1984 and 2010.
