Prevention strategies for Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PJP) among patients with HIV infection are well established. However, there is no consensus regarding PJP prophylaxis in HIV-uninfected individuals. Although the American Thoracic Society advises prophylaxis for patients taking prednisone at doses >20 mg per day for >1 month, this recommendation is not evidence based.
