The current Ebola virus disease epidemic is unprecedented, with thousands of cases and deaths in West Africa and isolated cases in other parts of the world. Researchers discuss appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and related issues in the management of potential Ebola patients.
The authors note that Ebola transmission occurs only via direct contact with bodily fluids and that no human-to-human airborne transmission has been reported. Secondary infections in healthcare workers illustrate the importance of rigorous PPE training, particularly during doffing.
