The Challenge of HIV Treatment and Prevention in Younger Patients

In a study involving 14 NA-ACCORD clinical cohorts, the association between retention in care and virologic suppression was significant only for patients aged 18 to 39.

Both patient age and retention in care can affect virologic suppression. Now, using data from 14 NA-ACCORD clinical cohorts, researchers have assessed the effect of age on various measures of retention in care (including the Department of Health and Human Services [DHHS] criterion of ≥1 clinic visit in each half of the calendar year ≥60 days apart) and on achieving virologic suppression.

The analysis included 17,044 HIV-infected adults who initiated care at the study sites between 2006 and 2010.
