Nevus comedonicus (NC) is a rare hamartomatous birthmark (prevalence, 1 in 45,000). Grouped dilated follicular ostia mimicking comedones are seen in Blaschko-linear plaques. They typically occur on the face and neck but can appear anywhere. Half of cases manifest at birth, the rest in childhood. Nevus comedonicus syndrome (NCS) is the association of NC with systemic abnormalities, typically skeletal, dental, neurologic, or ocular.
A restrospective observational study at two tertiary care centers in Argentina included 12 children diagnosed with NC over a 57-month period (average age, 10.75 years; none with family history).
