Several new therapies for patients with hepatitis C viral infection lead to cure of the disease in a high percentage of patients. One such drug is boceprevir. A patient with HIV infection and hepatitis C infection also had associated porphyria cutanea tarda (PCT). The PCT was unresponsive to phlebotomy and low-dose chloroquine therapy administered for PCT, and it had also failed to improve with interferon and ribavirin therapy administered for hepatitis C. The patient was placed on combination antiviral therapy for his HIV; eventually boceprevir was added to the HIV therapy along with pegylated interferon and ribavirin.
