How cannabis affects the course and outcome of psychiatric disorders concerns clinicians and patients intensely, but systematic studies have been meager. Using data from a manufacturer-sponsored, 2-year, longitudinal, observational study, investigators compared the course and outcome of three groups of bipolar patients initially seen during a manic or mixed episode: 1701 (88.5%) who never used cannabis, 89 (4.6%) who used early in the study and then quit, and 132 (6.9%) who continued to use.
