Few treatments are available for hoarding disorder. A recently developed, specialized form of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) uses motivational interviewing, graded exposure to resist acquiring, training in how to sort and discard, cognitive restructuring, and organizational skills. To examine outcomes, researchers conducted a meta-analysis of 10 studies (with 12 study samples) involving 232 people with hoarding as the primary condition who received CBT (mean age, 59; mean of female participants, 76%). Several authors helped to develop this specialized CBT.
