Lower eradication rates of Helicobacter pylori are attributed to increased resistance to standard agents (clarithromycin and metronidazole) used to treat patients with the infection. Given that amoxicillin, also used in H. pylori treatment regimens, is associated with lower resistance and is effective at high (>5.5) pH environments, investigators in Taiwan conducted a large, multicenter, randomized trial to compare the efficacy of high-dose amoxicillin and rabeprazole versus standard regimens in patients with documented infection.
