Although attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is associated with higher rates of accidents, its relationship to mortality is less clear. To assess whether ADHD is associated with excess mortality, investigators analyzed longitudinal data from Denmark's national registry on all residents born between 1981 and 2011 (nearly 2 million) and followed through 2013 (≤32 years).
Compared with residents without ADHD, the adjusted mortality risk was significantly elevated in residents diagnosed at age 6 to 17 years (mortality risk ratio, 1.6) and age >17 years (MRR, 4.3) but not in those diagnosed at age <6 years.
