Increasing numbers of parents have concerns about the number of vaccines recommended at a single visit and are requesting alternative vaccine schedules. Spacing out immunizations in the first two years of life delays protection and is not recommended by the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Researchers surveyed U.S. pediatricians and family physicians about their experience with parental requests to delay or space out vaccines. Of 534 respondents, 93% reported that some parents of children <2 years of age in their practices had requested spreading out vaccines, and 21% reported that more than 10% of parents had done so.
