Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is defined as blood loss of >500 mL within 24 hours of vaginal delivery or >1000 mL within 24 hours of cesarean section. Although bleeding is usually controlled by uterotonic agents and other obstetrical measures, hemorrhage that persists despite these interventions might be amenable to infusion of a procoagulant agent such as recombinant FVIIa (rVIIa).
