Suicide is the third leading cause of death among youth aged 10 to 14 years and the second among those aged 15 to 24. Investigators examined whether the nationwide Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Youth Suicide Prevention program reduced youth suicide. As part of a comprehensive initiative, the program teaches individuals who have regular contact with youth aged 10 to 24 (e.g., teachers, physicians) to identify those at risk for suicide and refer them for support (i.e., gatekeeper training).
