Pigmented purpura (PP) is a dermatosis made up of a group of idiopathic, chronic disorders that occur mostly in adults but occasionally in children. Petechiae and purpura with brown, red, or yellow patchy pigmentation are characteristic. Histologically, lymphocytic capillaritis is seen. To augment the little information available on pediatric PP, investigators in Canada performed a retrospective review, spanning 10 years, of patients younger than 18 years with a clinical and histopathologic diagnosis of PP. Patients with leukocytoclastic vasculitis were excluded. Data collection was via chart review and telephone surveys.
Seventeen patients (9 female) with confirmed PP were identified. Age of onset ranged from 2 to17 years (median, 9 years).…
