Standard triple therapy for Helicobacter pylori infection often includes clarithromycin. Various doses have been used in different regimens. Investigators performed a meta-analysis of studies that compared the efficacies and adverse effects of treatment regimens using full-dose versus half-dose clarithromycin.
The 19 randomized, controlled trials included in the meta-analysis featured different antibiotics, different doses of clarithromycin, and different durations of treatment. The overall intention-to-treat success rates were similar for full-dose and half-dose clarithromycin (83.4% and 82.5%). Eradication rates were also similar in per-protocol analysis.
