Current techniques for deep intubation of the small bowel by endoscopy are typically performed with specialized scopes and equipment, including double-balloon enteroscopy, single-balloon enteroscopy, and spiral endoscopy. The NaviAid AB utilizes a colonoscope with at least a 3.7-mm channel and a through-the-scope balloon that is advanced 20 to 30 cm ahead of the colonoscope and inflated; the colonoscope is advanced forward over the balloon catheter while the balloon is lightly pulled back toward the endoscope.
