Copeptin, a hormonal biomarker released during acute stress, peaks within 1 hour after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and degrades over the following 4 to 10 hours. Previous studies have shown that the combination of negative copeptin and negative troponin can rule out AMI. In the current study, researchers focused on emergency department chest pain patients with an initial negative troponin but an elevated copeptin (>14 pmol/L) and evaluated the role of a second, 2-hour copeptin level in risk stratification.
