Scattered attention is a feature of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In two reports, a research group explored patterns of disrupted attention in U.S. and Israeli PTSD patients and compared two attention-related interventions.
In the first report, the researchers reanalyzed findings from seven studies on variability in attention bias (i.e., either toward or away from threat); participants were 37 combat veterans with chronic PTSD, 28 individuals with PTSD related to motor vehicle accidents, 41 infantrymen with acute stress disorder, 83 healthy combat-exposed veterans, 91 subjects with social anxiety disorder, and 70 normal and 21 highly anxious undergraduates.
