A prevailing assumption about college rapes is that most are perpetrated by a small number of men, often labeled serial rapists. However, the empiric evidence for this assumption is based on one study.
To assess trajectories of likelihood to commit rape before and through college, investigators analyzed data from two large longitudinal studies of college men's sexual behaviors. Participants were surveyed annually beginning freshman year. A study of 850 men from 1990 to 1995 provided data to derive trajectories, and a study of 795 men from 2008 to 2011 provided validation data.
