The subdermal etonogestrel implant (Nexplanon) is one of the most effective contraceptives, with continuation rates similar to intrauterine devices and considerably higher than oral contraceptives. Nonetheless, bothersome vaginal bleeding is a common reason women discontinue implant use. To assess whether combined oral contraceptives (COCs) can diminish or eliminate such bleeding, researchers conducted a randomized, placebo-controlled trial involving 32 women with complaints of bothersome bleeding after using an implant for a mean of 9 months.
