Ampullary adenomas occur sporadically or as part of a genetic cancer syndrome. Increased genetic testing and subsequent endoscopic screening of high-risk patients has increased recognition of these lesions, while technological advances in both endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) have created an alternative to surgery.
Evaluate biopsies of ampullary lesions for the degree of neoplasia prior to attempting endoscopic resection.
