Data have been mixed on the role of breast-feeding as a means to suppress inflammatory activity in multiple sclerosis (MS; NEJM JW Neurol Sep 2011 and Neurology 2011; 77:145). Now, investigators have evaluated exclusive breast-feeding (without supplementary feedings) in women who intended to breast-feed for at least 2 months after delivery, from a prospective registry following 201 women during pregnancy through 12 months postpartum. Investigators compared relapse rates for women who intended to exclusively breast-feed (60%) with rates in women who either nonexclusively breast-fed (21%) or did not breast-feed (19%).
