Although use of hormone therapy (HT) for menopause symptoms has declined in recent years, use of compounded hormone therapy (CHT; also called bioidentical hormone therapy) use seems to have risen, perhaps fueled by celebrity endorsements, unregulated advertising, and beliefs about the safety of “natural” hormones. CHT is not FDA-regulated and its prescriptions not tracked; therefore, use rates are difficult to know. Investigators estimated CHT use based on responses from two Internet surveys (Harris poll: 801 women aged 45–60 with past or present menopause symptoms; Rose poll: 2044 women aged ≥40 who had ever used HT).
