In patients with venous thromboembolism, the anticoagulant rivaroxaban, which specifically targets clotting factor Xa, was shown to have a more favorable safety profile and cause fewer bleeding complications than combined low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH)/vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) such as warfarin.
