Personalized medicine promises to optimize prescribing through individual tailoring, but to fulfill that promise, clinicians need biomarkers that predict treatment responses. These researchers examined data on drug clearance and genotype from 362 patients with schizophrenia enrolled in CATIE, a study on antipsychotic efficacy sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health. Of particular interest was risperidone, because its clinical effectiveness is affected by the speed with which it is metabolized.
