Angiosarcomas (AS) typically arise in the setting of lymphedema and in the post-radiation field. Other associations include arteriovenous fistulas and exposure to polyvinyl chloride, metal prostheses implants, and foreign material (e.g., Dacron grafts). Transformation from a hemangioma has also been described. To this list we now add chronic expanding hematoma (CEH). CEHs are hematomas that do not resolve and expand in size more than 1 month after formation. Classically, they are preceded by trauma or surgery and consist of blood surrounded by a fibrous capsule.
