Functional dyspepsia is a common disorder that is often difficult to treat. Multiple psychotropic drugs have been suggested as potential therapies.
Investigators performed a meta-analysis of randomized, controlled trials in which psychotropic drugs were compared with placebo for the relief of dyspepsia symptoms, including data from 1241 patients involved in 13 trials.
Use of psychotropic drugs was associated with reduced risk for persistent symptoms compared with placebo (relative risk for persistent symptoms, 0.78; number needed to treat, 6). However, significant heterogeneity was identified between trials.
