Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is a synucleinopathy associated with dysautonomia and motor features such as parkinsonism, cerebellar ataxia, or both. In this single-center, retrospective analysis, 685 patients with a clinical diagnosis of MSA-parkinsonism or MSA-cerebellar ataxia underwent autonomic reflex screening, including quantitative sudomotor axon reflex testing, heart rate response to deep breathing, heart rate and blood pressure responses to the Valsalva maneuver, and tilt table testing. The researchers assessed survival rates according to both clinical features and severity scores on autonomic testing.
