Urologic injuries following benign hysterectomy can cause significant morbidity; thus, a U.S. medical center instituted a policy of universal cystoscopy (with training in the procedure). Researchers at this center conducted a retrospective cohort study to evaluate outcomes of 973 benign hysterectomies performed before the initiation of universal cystoscopy (preuniversal group) compared with 1849 hysterectomies after institution of the policy (postuniversal group).
