Recent stenting trials using modern pharmacologic regimens have documented low rates of stent thrombosis (<1% within the first year), but intraprocedural thrombotic events (IPTE) remain clinically challenging and prognostically important. In addition, we don't know the extent to which the other IPTE components (new or worsened thrombus, abrupt closure, no-reflow or slow flow, and distal embolization) are associated with adverse events. To provide clarity, investigators conducted frame-by-frame, core-laboratory angiographic analyses for 6591 patients with ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) or non–ST-segment-elevation acute coronary syndromes (NSTEACS).
