The treatment of severe acute nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (AUGIB) may involve transfusion of blood products. To determine the associations between transfusions and clinical outcomes, investigators in Denmark reviewed the records of 5107 patients with 5681 admissions requiring endoscopic therapy for AUGIB between 2011 and 2013. The relations between clinical outcomes and transfusion of packed red blood cells (PRBCs), fresh frozen plasma (FFP), and platelets (PLT) were determined.
