Strong associations between insulin resistance and depression have led to recent studies of the antidepressant effects of several antidiabetic medications, including metformin and pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione class antihyperglycemic agent (a PPAR-ɣ agonist). Another research avenue has involved telomeres, which shorten with age.
