Late treatment-related complications of cancer therapy are well described and are an important cause of morbidity and mortality in cancer survivors. To assess the prevalence of cardiac disease after treatment of childhood cancer, investigators recruited survivors treated at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital who were at least 10 years from original diagnosis and whose treatment included an anthracycline or cardiac-directed radiotherapy (RT). Cardiac evaluations included history and physical examination, laboratory studies including lipid panels, echocardiography, and electrocardiograms; the latter two studies underwent independent central review. Findings were correlated with cumulative anthracycline dose, RT dose, and field size.
