Endoscopic resection (ER) is a common curative treatment approach for early gastric cancer in high-incidence regions. To compare long-term outcomes in patients undergoing ER versus surgery with curative intent for early gastric cancer, investigators at a large referral hospital in Korea conducted follow-up endoscopy and computed tomography in 1290 ER recipients and 1273 surgery recipients. A propensity-score–matching analysis identified 611 matched patients in each group.
In a logistic regression analysis of matched-patient data controlling for clinical covariates, the 10-year overall and disease-specific survival (DSS) rates were noninferior in the ER versus surgery group (80.1% vs. 80.8%, and 98.0% vs. 96.9%, respectively). Recurrence-free…
