In a recent trial, testosterone therapy did not improve sexual function or quality of life in older men with low serum testosterone levels, but participants were not enrolled according to any particular symptoms (NEJM JW Gen Med Sep 15 2015 and JAMA 2015; 314:570). Now, in an NIH-supported group of randomized, double-blind studies (the “Testosterone Trials” [TT]), researchers have focused on symptomatic older men (age, ≥65) with two serum testosterone levels that averaged <275 ng/dL.
