Following positive results from trials of HER2-targeted agents in HER2-positive breast cancer, investigators are evaluating these agents in HER2-positive gastroesophageal cancer. To evaluate the use of the HER1/HER2 tyrosine kinase inhibitor lapatinib in this setting, researchers conducted an industry-sponsored, international, randomized, phase III trial involving 487 patients with HER2-positive advanced esophagogastric cancer centrally confirmed by FISH testing.
