Patients with schizophrenia are at heightened risk for obesity and metabolic disorders. Several reports have highlighted the importance of physical assessment and prescription of activity in patients with schizophrenia.
Assessment of whether someone engages in sufficient physical activity can be straightforward. Vancampfort and colleagues used the “Physical Activity Vital Sign” exercise assessment, asking 100 outpatients how many average days per week they engaged in moderate-to-vigorous activity (e.g., brisk walking) and, on those days, how many minutes they were active at this level.
