For people newly infected with HIV, resistance to nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) is the most common form of transmitted drug resistance. Patients with baseline NNRTI resistance generally receive boosted protease inhibitor (bPI)–based antiretroviral therapy (ART). To learn more about ART response in patients who receive integrase inhibitor–based therapy but have NNRTI resistance, researchers retrospectively studied data from 3245 treatment-naive patients (87% men; median viral load, 4.5 log copies/mL; median CD4 count, 343 cells/mm3) in a large HIV-care program.
