Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination was first recommended for girls in 2006, and quadrivalent vaccine (4vHPV) was most commonly used until 2014. To examine the effect of vaccination on HPV prevalence in females aged 14 to 34 years, researchers analyzed National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data before (2003−2006) and after (2009−2012) the vaccine was introduced. The study involved some 2100 survey participants in the prevaccine period and 2600 in the vaccine period who submitted self-collected cervicovaginal samples that were adequate for DNA typing.
In the vaccine period, 51% of females aged 14 to 19 years reported receiving at least one vaccine dose and 35% reported receiving three doses; coverage was lower in older age group…
