Treatment of adolescent depression decreases symptoms, but whether global functioning (attending school, working, etc.) improves is not known. To fill this knowledge gap, researchers enrolled 196 adolescents (mean age, 17.8 years; 79% white; 56% female) of the original 439 adolescents from the Treatment for Adolescents with Depression Study (TADS; J Am Acad Child Adolesc Psychiatry 2006; 45:1419e26) and followed them periodically for 42 months. Most participants completed standardized assessments at various time points between 6 and 42 months (58% and 70%, respectively).
