The acute epidemic of newborns with microcephaly in Brazil, the current focus of Zika virus infection, has prompted investigators to examine the possible link between microcephaly and the virus in two pregnant Brazilian women whose fetuses were diagnosed with the severe neurologic condition by serial ultrasonography. At week 28 of gestation, both women, who appeared healthy, provided amniotic fluid, serum, and urine samples for subsequent viral studies.
