Most evidence-based psychotherapy studies have focused on varieties of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). In addition, accumulating literature suggests the effectiveness of interpersonal therapy (IPT) — a brief therapy focusing on loss, interpersonal disputes, role transitions, and interpersonal deficits — for a variety of psychiatric disorders. These authors conducted a meta-analysis of 90 randomized, controlled trials that included 11,434 participants to compare effectiveness of IPT with controls (wait-list, usual care, medication, or other psychotherapeutic treatments, including CBT).
