Symptom severity is not consistently concordant with histologic activity in eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), making it difficult for clinicians to decide on management strategies based solely on symptom assessment.
In an industry-funded study, investigators in Switzerland and the U.S. prospectively evaluated the ability of a validated symptom-based score (Eosinophilic Esophagitis Activity Index Patient-Reported Outcomes [EoE PRO]), to predict histologic and endoscopic remission in 269 adults with EoE (67% men; mean age, 39 years).
