Split-dose and same-day bowel preparations are associated with better bowel cleansing for colonoscopy, particularly in the right colon, and with higher adenoma detection rates, compared with day-before regimens. However, some physicians and patients are still biased against split dosing because of the inconvenience of rising in the middle of the night for a second dose when early morning appointments are scheduled, and a perceived risk for incontinence, despite evidence that actual incontinence is only minimally increased with split dosing.
