HIV strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs) have become increasingly popular options for the initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART). To analyze the prevalence of transmitted INSTI resistance, researchers conducted the Swiss HIV Cohort Study (SHCS) between 2008 (at INSTI introduction in Switzerland) and 2014, with minor pharmaceutical support. The highly representative cohort for HIV infection in Switzerland includes 85% of newly HIV-infected people and at least 75% of all patients on ART. The authors examined the presence of IAS-USA major and minor INSTI mutations among 1316 patients with ≥1 HIV integrase genotype done before INSTI exposure.
