Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is approved for high-risk patients with severe, symptomatic aortic stenosis (AS); appears to be heading toward approval soon for intermediate-risk patients; and is undergoing evaluation in low-risk subjects. Many of these low-risk patients will have congenitally bicuspid valves with calcification occurring at a younger age than is typical in senile AS; patients with bicuspid valves were excluded from the randomized trials. In this retrospective, multicenter trial, the clinical outcomes of the SAPIEN 3 TAVR system were evaluated in 51 patients with bicuspid valvular AS (mean age, 76; 53% women).
